Food intolerance is a sneaky health disorder which differs from a food allergy in that the reaction is not immediate (in case of allergy, the symptoms occur quickly). Food intolerance may not even be felt because often the troubles come later, so you can’t tell why you feel so bad. Sometimes people don’t even know that something is wrong with them before they eliminate certain foods from their menu and then try to start consuming them again. Such a provocation test is a good way to detect a food intolerance on your own. But what to leave out? For how long? One option is to start experimenting with different foods on your own, eliminating something strictly for 1 month and then introducing it again. A good option for enthusiasts, but it takes time.
Food intolerance test gives a hint for which foods the body has increased sensitivity, i.e. what take longer to digest and what could cause several disorders like gases, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, sleep disorders, and fatigue. Once you have found out which foods you are intolerant to, you can start eliminating them one by one and later reintroduce them.
Teraapialaegas offers the DST Nutrismart test, which tests 57 more common foods.
These foods include:
- grains: rye, wheat, barley, oat, buckwheat, amarant, quinoa, corn, rice
- nuts: peanuts, hazelnuts, almonds
- fruit: banana, lemon, orange, strawberry, grapes, peach, apple, pineapple, kiwi
- egg white and egg yolk (separately)
- milk: caseine; cow, sheep, and goat milk
- seafood/fish: cod, salmon, trout, tuna, shrimps, squid, octopus
- vegetables: tomato, pea, green bean, carrot, celery, cabbage, brocoli, garlic, onion, leek
- meat: mutton, pork, beef, chicken, turkey
- other: potato, soy, brewer’s yeast, cocoa, coffee, mustard
How is the testing done?
The finger is pricked, blood collected, and put into different solutions. It doesn’t hurt, even children have coped with this! After 30 minutes and adding several solutions and rinsing liquid, the test device shall show stripes that indicate no intolerance, moderate intolerance, or strong reaction. Nutrition counselling is part of the intolerance testing and during this session we check how the test results fit in with the daily menu and different disorders. The counselling session does not focus only on the intolerance test results, but we also look at the general picture and give different recommendations how to continue based on these results.
Food intolerance test with nutrition counselling: EUR 110
We don’t sell the tests without counselling because it is best to discuss the results with a specialist.
If you want to test for food intolerance, write to firstname.lastname@example.org
Then you will receive a questionnaire about your lifestyle and eating habits that you have to fill in. Then you need to drop by for a moment, give blood, and then come to the counselling session on some other day (could be the next day already, but not right away because interpreting the results and analysing them in the context of your menu takes some time).
